Silence.

When does silence become a secret sin?

Surely there is a war that is waged over the voices of the sons and daughters of God.

The earth groans for the children of light to be revealed. Could it be that the revealing of the light we carry, comes in the form of sound?

Twice, the Ancient of Days asked Elijah why he was hiding. A prophet no longer prophesying. And yet, God broke the silence with His sound.

In a simple question whispered, the Almighty came and pierced the barrenness of this fearful man. A prophet whose name means “Yahweh is my God” and yet he was afraid, and that fear imprisoned him behind bars of silence.

The one who called down fire and is now hiding in abandoned caves. Forsaking his mantle; wrapping himself in the worthless taunts of a cursed woman, instead of being cloaked in the fear of His God.

How did we get here?

Why have we sentenced ourselves to the caves, living out a penance of silence?

Where is this Davidic oil that causes us to stand boldly with heaven’s backing? Surely it has not dried up. Empowering us to shout into the serpentine camps, “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

What it might feel like to be unafraid to harmonize with heaven.

Surely our silence is a sin in the face of our Great Commission. An unholy gag order stopping us from claiming our full inheritance in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If we remain silent, will He not cause the stones to cry out?

Maybe we have been masking our sinful silence in false humility. Condemning the voice Christ gave us as unworthy.

But how will the Holy Spirit move if the vessel He uses is closed to Him?

How will the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth cause the world to bow, if it is never spoken, never confessed?

How is the will of the Father to be known if we don’t open our mouths and read it?

Where are these voice from the wilderness, preparing the earth for the return of our great Tribal Lion? Where are these watchers on the wall who cry out day and night, until He makes Jerusalem the praise of the earth?

Brothers and sisters, kings and priests, where is our sound?

Why have we falsely adopted silence as the language of the Triune God?

In the beginning was the Word. The Word was God. The Word was with God. And so too is that Word within us; dwelt among us.

But how can we know the power of a word that goes unspoken? It must be birthed through the canals of the Holy Spirit, even if our voices shake.

Are there not 7,000 others just like us who have not bent the knee or kissed the baals?

Perhaps the real sin is not fearing the One who gave us breath. Using our free will to shut up the breath that brings Him glory. The One who died and gave His last breath for yours.

He will receive the reward for His suffering; He must!

This vow of silence, it must be broken. Child of Glory, if the stones can be courageous, so too can we. If the skies proclaim His majesty, so too can we.

For what child can keep quiet about the One they love?
